MontAche Green Innovation Hub is a community-focused agricultural and innovation initiative established to transform productive land into a platform for food production, green enterprise, skills development and employment creation.
Based around Wumenu in the Ho area of Ghana's Volta Region, we are developing a model that combines climate-smart agriculture with innovation, entrepreneurship, technology and community development.
Our long-term vision is an integrated green innovation ecosystem where young people and women can access land, knowledge, technology, training, mentorship and the opportunity to build sustainable livelihoods........
Read our storyEach part of the hub exists because the others need it. Farming without processing leaves the value elsewhere; processing without training leaves the jobs unfilled.

Maize, vegetables, ginger, coconut and fruit trees grown with irrigation, soil and water conservation, agroforestry and climate-resilient practice.

Drying, milling, packing and branding on site so the margin stays local instead of leaving with the raw crop.
Read MoreA farmer sells fresh at the farmgate, because there is nowhere nearby to dry, mill or package it. Every step after that happens elsewhere and so does every cedi of the margin.
The farmer keeps the first slice. The rest is captured downstream, often outside Ghana.
A contracted price agreed before planting, and every stage after it performed on site.
The farmer earns more. The processing wages are paid locally. And the surplus from the finished product funds the training, the extension work and the women's enterprise centre so the hub eventually pays for itself......
We use a practical ecosystem approach five steps, repeated for every part of the hub. Hover any step to bring it forward.
We identify real challenges facing farmers, young people, women and communities.
We bring together knowledge, local experience and technical expertise.
We develop and test practical solutions.
We turn promising ideas into real projects and enterprises.
We document successful models and create pathways for wider adoption.
“A crop that can't wait is a crop you sell on someone else's terms.” The problem MontAche exists to solve
Fifteen of the seventeen goals are built into the design of the hub. Follow the trunk down each goal is a node growing on it.
Measured goals carry a specific target attached. Supported goals are contributed to through the design of the hub.
Farm updates, innovation projects, training and community activity as the hub is built.

Land preparation has started at Wumenu in the Ho Municipality, with the first access and production zones marked out across the site.

The skills academy is being designed around work that already exists on the site, so that training leads somewhere. Agronomy, machinery, food processing, drone operation and agribusiness are the first areas planned.

Unreliable grid power and diesel dependency quietly raise the cost of every processing and cold-storage operation in the region. That cost is what makes local processing hard to sustain.
